Petit Hedgehog - SAGE 2017 Preview

Project Overview

Petit Hedgehog is a fangame project made (mostly) by dedicated Sonic fan Chengi, in an attempt to properly bring the adventure formula to 2D without heavy automation or scripted sequences all while including mostly custom-made assets.

What started as more of a "test" became a little bit more of a "project." I started to work more with GameMaker Studio, learn the ins-and-outs of the engine I used, etcetera. It became apparent development started to turn into something completely different and I had taken a turn for making this a bigger thing than it already was.

Technically really the first ever fangame I've extensively worked on, let alone put this amount of effort into. About 70% of it was a solo effort, but I'd especially like to thank the people who helped me out with development and production of assets/music.

The unique art design and fresh assets really caught my eye, and do a really great job of bringing the levels to life. The gameplay feels super smooth to boot, which accompanies some solid level design. My only criticism for this build would be the lack of badniks in the stages... I think with more enemies the levels would feel more full and complete, for lack of better words. Otherwise, really fun to play - both as Sonic and Shadow!

My attractive and successful African-American, I can't use my controller except for like 4 directions and the button for Spindashing. It also doesn't work on Menu either but got "Press A" on the screen, wtf bruh.

It would appear I forgot to disable the controller testing code. That's a mix-up on my part.

I'm still at a point in development where I'm trying to get both DirectInput and XInput controllers to work in tandem with the game, but GMS doesn't seem to like certain controllers.

Regardless, I apologize for the oversight.

Aye man, No need to apologize. We all start somewhere, sorry if I seemed harsh I was just confused and trying to be funny. I played it with Keyboard eventually and had hella fun. Keep up the good work!

This plays really well, especially for a GameMaker game. That said, it didn't like my controller. In Xinput the joystick moved me, but no other button did anything. In dinput, everything was bound to the X button. I can tell from earlier comments that there isn't even supposed to be controller support yet, though, so whatever, hehe

The sound effects were inconsistent and chirpy, but I dig the art. I take it they're all original assets?
