SAGE 2020 - Demo Blaze Rush

Overview

7646

Overview
Blaze Rush is a 2.5D platformer similar to Sonic Rush but it only features everyone's favorite lavender feline, Blaze The Cat!
Boost through levels and see if you can beat your record time while smashing and burning robots along the way!

The story is still TBD and the project is in its Alpha phase. There is also just one level right now.

Have fun, and please feel free to comment on anything you'd like to see in later releases.

Blaze feels really slippery and the platforming is sometimes a bit painful as a result. However, I think it has a lot of potential and could eventually be a really fun game.

I'm glad to see a fangame focused entirely on Blaze, since Sega has all but forgotten her.

I really like the art assets, especially the silhouette used for the title screen. The in game models don't look too bad either (although Blaze doesn't have a stand-to-crouch animation and looks pretty funny while spamming crouch.)

My biggest complaint is on the level design. I didn't use the boost for the entire level out of fear of careening off a cliff and into the bottomless pit that the whole level exists over. I know Sonic Rush and Rush Adventure had the classic Dimps bottomless pit obsession, but this is a bit overkill. I also remember being sent into spikes two times from hidden springs, one of which was guarding a shield power up. Beginners traps like that just aren't fun.

Despite my critiques on that, i think this is a really promising alpha and i'm looking forward to seeing how the future demos and full release turn out!

Thank you for the feedback! I will admit, I kinda did throw a level together. I'm a beginner when it comes to level design, and it's a field of game development that I want to improve on.

Thank you again for you're feedback! The devs and I will do what we can to improve the experience.

Love the logo, artwork and the idea but the level was meh. The boost works fine as well, the jumping animation can be a bit stiff when moving a different direction and the precision platforming segment is a huggee no-no for me.
