SAGE 2021 - Demo Salvagers (alpha)

Overview

this is a 3rd person game centred around escort missions where you play as a hero trying to save as many people as they can in the middle of a mass take over within 6 minutes. rescue all 15 civilians in the shortest amount of time possible.

this is a vertical slice to test the gameplay style to other players, please give leave a comment and give me all the feedback you can such as what i did right and what i did wrong. this is a gameplay style that I've seen few games do right whilst making it the main point of the game.

I couldn't really gel with this one, but that's just because it's so early in development. I found it a little hard to control, especially with aiming the shield.

That said, this game's got style. The character designs are really expressive and "alien" in a fun, cartoony way. I hope to see this one fleshed out!

i'm glad you like the graphics, can i ask if the walking controls were hard?

Walking feels great, as does jumping. I think the biggest problem is the acceleration of the mouse. Moving the camera is quite slow and has just a bit much inertia. I have to keep "swiping" the mouse, and when I do the camera bounces back closer to where it was, so it feels like I have to fight it.

i'll have to look into those the camera issues. any other problems you ran into?

This is a neat idea for a game! I think you could add a lot of variety to the game if you could recruit some people that can help fight back the enemies, like local police, or maybe you can search and find 3 parts that form a drone that follows you and helps take down enemies (which can get destroyed by enemy bullets, of course) I think a game concept centered around escorting civilians could actually work if you can find clever ways to break up the monotony!

Sounds like a good idea. I was thinking of having the enemies be more aggressive and give the main character a gun with her shield to break up the monotony.

Yeah I think that can totally work! I imagine the enemies try to follow the player so there's more urgency to defeat them
