Hello everyone,

It's me, the guy who made the Klonoa fan game, I'm here with another fan game, but this time it's about the blue hedhehog!

The game was playable in an early prototype version on itchio for a long time, but if you never heard about it, you're probably wondering... what is Sonic Revert about?

Well, in a nutshell, it's an online multiplayer Sonic fan game where Sonic R meets Trackmania!

If you prefer the long answer:

Sonic Revert
is a reimagining of the Sonic gameplay but where Sonic is controlled like a car when he's in running mode. The game features singleplayer time attack and online multiplayer racing mode. Some of the classic Sonic mechanics have been modified, such as the homing attack. The level design is inspired by Trackmania tracks, but filled with badniks, spikes and other dangers.

Why I made this fan game:

My first console was a Genesis / Megadrive with the first Sonic game. Since then I always followed the blue hedgehog adventure and played most of its game. However, I was always convinced that Sonic would really work if it had car-like controls when running at full speed. So, one year ago, I start prototyping a little something to test if it would work and... it was great!

Since, I worked on my free time to create this small fan game.

What's next:

Well it has been a year since I started working on this, so right now I think I'll take a pause to make other (non Sonic) games. I'll probably add levels from time to time as the goal was to make 7 levels (like the 7 emeralds).

I hope you like it, in any case feel free to tell me what you think of it.
See you later!

I think it would be cool if the car-like physics were slightly more flexible like in S2+3, so that you could get a boost when running down a hill at speed, and then gradually lose it if you're running. Maybe rolling would let you keep it longer and you can gain more but rolling would have no minimum speed. I know it's how racing games work but it always feels a little off to me if you go down a huge slope and gain about zero momentum. Thanks!

Yeah I might change the physic in later updates, because even to me, it feels wrong to not gain speed while going down and lose while going up.

MY biggest complaint about this aside from the programmer art has to be how clingy Sonic is to objects, I sometimes find myself performing some absurd gravity defying strolls along world geometry. Minor gripe is the lack of enemy variety and traps, yeah this is a one man project, additinally I'll grant you the fact that enemies were always cheeky obstacles in the classic 2d games and it wasn't until S3&K where they felt dangerous due to tagged on gadget gimmicks in stages. But still some enemy variety would be appreciated. Whether it's a row of enemies that throw projectiles in your way, enemies that follow you until they blow up, or enemies who either grow long attacking appendages or expand spikes or their body itself in order to hurt you and get in your way. Personally I feel that in 3d space, enemy variety of sonic games has a multitude of interesting possibilities.

BTW I really LOVE the double jump mechanic, really lets me do some neat sequence breaks and is much needed due to the unique control mechanics, which I won't lie I've actually thought of myself more than once, so it's cool to see someone actually build a tech demo out of it, even if it's rough around the edges.

This is very cool looking! I love the art style, personally. Feels like an unreleased Sega Saturn sonic game!

I'll give it a play when I get some time.

Could you make it so that spinning amplifies the slope physics? I think it would be a nice touch added on to an already-useful mechanic, and it would also make traditional rolling more useful in a 3D space.
